WHAT IS GAS/FLATULENCE?

Gas / FlatulenceIt is defined as the accumulation of gases in the stomach and intestines that are produced as a result of digestive and other fermentation processes. These gases cause digestive gas accumulation that passes through the anus. It may result in discomfort and pain.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF GAS/FLATULENCE?

The intestinal gas is composed of gases from the external source like engulfed atmospheric air and from internal sources like flatulence. The common causes of gas are:

  • Indigestion
  • Incomplete digestion
  • Fermentation of food in the intestines causes gas
  • Food rich in carbohydrates like potatoes, breads, wheat, oats, beans, lentils etc produce flatus

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF GAS/FLATULENCE?

THE SYMPTOMS RELATED TO THE ACCUMULATION OF GAS IN THE INTESTINES ARE:

The seeds are vada pacifying and very useful in relieving body pains, back pain and stiff joints. It is sued in Hakam churna.

TRIGONELLA FOENUM GRAECUM (FENUGREEK)

Its common name is fenugreek. These seeds have been used as a spice and the leaves of the plant are consumed as a vegetable in India, Middle East and China. It is having anti-inflammatory, vata relieving properties. It’s very good for relieving body pains. Its fresh leaves are useful in the case of flatulence, indigestion and sluggish liver. It enhances enzyme production which aids digestion. It relieves Vata energy in the body which causes stiffness and pain. It is effective in relieving muscle pains, body pains, stiffness, joint pains, and fatigue. It is used in Hakam churna.

TRACHYSPERMUM AMMI (AJWAIN)

It is a very common spice found in Indian cooking. It has vata pacifying properties and is warm in nature. It expels acidity and relieves stomach ache. The seeds are also effective in relieving body pains, painful menstruation, body stiffness and abdominal pains. It is also very good in joint pains.

EMBLICA OFFICINALIS (Amalaki)

TERMINALIA CHEBULA (HARITAKI)

Haritaki is an important constituent of Triphala that has wonderful health benefits. It acts well in gastrointestinal ailments, in cases of spleenomegaly, hepatomegaly, tumors, ascites, and anemias. Its powder, when mixed with honey and ghee, is an effective remedy for anemia. The herb improves memory and is salutary in dysuria and urinary stones. Haritaki helps in improving appetite and helps in the digestion. In anemia of any origin, Haritaki herb is highly beneficial. It helps anemia due to haemoglobin deficiency, anemia due to red blood cell deficiency, and anemias of abnormal form origin. Haritaki is used in Agnitundi vati.

TERMINALIA BELERICA (VIBHITAKI)

A very important herb in the Ayurvedic world, Vibhitaki is famous for its wonderful use in the formation of Triphala. It has numerous health benefits on the human body. Its action on the heart makes it an excellent heart tonic. It helps in purifying blood, thinning of blood, and removes toxins. It is used in cases of low RBC count and low haemoglobin.
